The Journal of Social Media Studies is pleased to announce a call for manuscript submissions for a special issue focused on the evolving intersections of politics and social media. As social media platforms continue to reshape how we communicate, interact, and access information, the role of social media within the political landscape has become increasingly significant.
Scope of the Journal
The Journal of Social Media in Society is an anonymous peer-reviewed, open-access, online journal that accepts scholarly articles and book reviews. Since 2012, the journal has been devoted to scholarship and commentary on social media and its impact on society. The objective of JSMS is to advance the study of social media with current literature based on theory, research, and practice from all methodological frameworks.
Scope of the Special Issue
We invite original research articles, reviews, and conceptual papers that delve into various aspects of the intersection between politics and social media. Submissions may address, but are not limited to, the following themes:
- Ethical and Societal Implications
- Online Discourse and Dialogue
- Mass Media Framing and Cultural Narratives
- Fake News and Misinformation
- New and Emerging Technologies
- Gender, Race and Media Representations
Submission Guidelines
Manuscripts should be prepared according to the guidelines provided on the Journal of Social Media in Society website (thejsms.org). All submissions will undergo rigorous peer review by experts in the field. Submissions should be original, not under consideration elsewhere, and largely written without artificial intelligence aids.

- Query your idea via email to the co-editors: Summer 2024
- Manuscript Submission Deadline: Jan. 15, 2025 (submission system will open Sept. 1, 2024)
- First Round of Reviews: Feb. 15, 2025
- Final Manuscript Submission: March 15, 2025
- Expected Publication: May 31, 2025
Submission Process
Manuscripts should be submitted electronically through the Journal of Social Media in Society submission system. Upon submission, authors should indicate that their manuscript is intended for the special issue on "Intersections of Politics and Social Media."
